Summary: Hercules Fortissimo II (Gamesurround 5.1 digital edition) has no sound on headphone output
Description:
the Fortissimo II card has seperate outputs for front, rear speakers and
headphone. I cannot get sound on the headphone.

Front (HW:0,0) and rear speakers (HW:0,1) work.IEC958 (HW:0,2) is also
available but I have not tested it.

The slider marked as headphone in the mixer actually controls the rear
speaker volume.

I had the same issue on Mandrake 9.2, Mandrake 10.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 tiwai - 09-20-2004 17:39 CEST
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So far, only 4.0 output is supported on cs46xx driver.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 bekker - 09-21-2004 20:01 CEST
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fair enough. Is 5.1 support planned?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 tiwai - 09-23-2004 18:34 CEST
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry, no plan AFAIK.
Benny might help for further development of 5.1 support (see
cs46xx source codes for his address).

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 tiwai - 10-06-2004 11:33 CEST
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, I misinformed -- 5.1 output is supported on CS46xx when
dual codecs are detected. But, in your case, the board seems to
have only one codec.

Could you show the files in /proc/asound/card0/codec*/* files?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 bekker - 10-07-2004 22:25 CEST
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I only have /proc/asound/card0/codec97#0/

ls -l /proc/asound/card0/codec97#0/:

-r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 Oct 7 22:25 ac97#0-0
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 Oct 7 22:25 ac97#0-0+regs

Hope this helps

I applyed the patch: now i can see Center LFE but it's mapped to rear
speakers.
As you can see Hercules Fortissimo II has only one codec cs4624

Is it planned to add headphones output functionality? I still really miss
it - it's amplified so it's much butter to use with headphones (sound
from speakers output is disturbed when volume is quite high) and after all
it's quite problematic when I switch speakers/headphones or switch OS
linux/windows.

Summary: Hercules Fortissimo II (Gamesurround 5.1 digital
edition) has no sound on headphone output
Description:
the Fortissimo II card has seperate outputs for front, rear speakers and
headphone. I cannot get sound on the headphone.

Front (HW:0,0) and rear speakers (HW:0,1) work.IEC958 (HW:0,2) is also
available but I have not tested it.

The slider marked as headphone in the mixer actually controls the rear
speaker volume.

Actually I don't think the card is really 5.1. With windows2000 I get the
following output choices:

1) headphone
2) two front speakers
3) two front and two back speakers

There is no provision for a subwoofer which I thought was part of the 5.1
standard.

Anybody works on this problem?
I have a BlackGold II Cannon card which uses CS4630 with two codecs. and I
have the same problem. I can hear sound from front, rear or center_lfe
seperately, but there is no sound from headphones. here is my
/proc/asound/devices

Well, I misinformed -- 5.1 output is supported on CS46xx when

Could you show the files in /proc/asound/card0/codec*/* files?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
how do I apply this patch?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 tiwai - 10-12-2004 14:36 CEST
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Get the latest alsa-driver tarball (or better the CVS version) and
apply on it.

However, apparently, this patch won't solve the problem, I guess.
(Still you can try to be sure.)

AFAIK, cs4294 doesn't support 5.1 output by a single chip. So,
there must be a secondary codec.

Could you see the board whether it has two CS4294 codec chips on it?

Actually I don't think the card is really 5.1. With windows2000 I get the

There is no provision for a subwoofer which I thought was part of the 5.1

Get the latest alsa-driver tarball (or better the CVS version) and
apply on it.

However, apparently, this patch won't solve the problem, I guess.
(Still you can try to be sure.)

AFAIK, cs4294 doesn't support 5.1 output by a single chip. So,
there must be a secondary codec.

Could you see the board whether it has two CS4294 codec chips on it?

Summary: Hercules Fortissimo II (Gamesurround 5.1 digital edition) has no sound on headphone output
Description:
the Fortissimo II card has seperate outputs for front, rear speakers and
headphone. I cannot get sound on the headphone.

Front (HW:0,0) and rear speakers (HW:0,1) work.IEC958 (HW:0,2) is also
available but I have not tested it.

The slider marked as headphone in the mixer actually controls the rear
speaker volume.

So far, only 4.0 output is supported on cs46xx driver.

Fair enough. Is 5.1 support planned?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 tiwai - 09-23-2004 18:34 CEST
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry, no plan AFAIK.
Benny might help for further development of 5.1 support (see
cs46xx source codes for his address).

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 tiwai - 10-06-2004 11:33 CEST
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, I misinformed -- 5.1 output is supported on CS46xx when
dual codecs are detected. But, in your case, the board seems to
have only one codec.

Could you show the files in /proc/asound/card0/codec*/* files?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 bekker - 10-07-2004 22:25 CEST
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I only have /proc/asound/card0/codec97#0/

Summary: Hercules Fortissimo II (Gamesurround 5.1 digital edition) has no sound on headphone output
Description:
the Fortissimo II card has seperate outputs for front, rear speakers and
headphone. I cannot get sound on the headphone.

Front (HW:0,0) and rear speakers (HW:0,1) work.IEC958 (HW:0,2) is also
available but I have not tested it.

The slider marked as headphone in the mixer actually controls the rear
speaker volume.

I had the same issue on Mandrake 9.2, Mandrake 10.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 tiwai - 09-20-2004 17:39 CEST
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So far, only 4.0 output is supported on cs46xx driver.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 bekker - 09-21-2004 20:01 CEST
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fair enough. Is 5.1 support planned?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 tiwai - 09-23-2004 18:34 CEST
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry, no plan AFAIK.
Benny might help for further development of 5.1 support (see
cs46xx source codes for his address).

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 tiwai - 10-06-2004 11:33 CEST
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, I misinformed -- 5.1 output is supported on CS46xx when
dual codecs are detected. But, in your case, the board seems to
have only one codec.

Could you show the files in /proc/asound/card0/codec*/* files?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 bekker - 10-07-2004 22:25 CEST
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I only have /proc/asound/card0/codec97#0/

ls -l /proc/asound/card0/codec97#0/:

-r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 Oct 7 22:25 ac97#0-0
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 Oct 7 22:25 ac97#0-0+regs

Hope this helps

Oh I meant the contents of the files :) Please attach them.

So far, only 4.0 output is supported on cs46xx driver.

Fair enough. Is 5.1 support planned?

 tiwai - 09-23-2004 18:34 CEST
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry, no plan AFAIK.
Benny might help for further development of 5.1 support (see
cs46xx source codes for his address).
