Hi all
I'm trying to setup an aprs station, supporting both digipeating and
i-gate. So far I have found that there is two packages : aprsdigi, and
aprsd. Each does one of the wanted things, but not the other. Am I correct?
How would one do the right setup of both aprsdigi AND aprsd on the same PC?
(If that's needed to do both my jobs)
I sort of having aprsd up and running already, but it just sits there. It is
connected to the network (have connection to second.aprs.net, and another
local i-gate here in Denmark). And I can see in history.txt that it recieves
things. But if I try to use a program like ui-view to connect to the server
I don't get a thing, other than the position of the server itself. What am I
doing vrong?
aprsd is almost a standard install (conf file taken from debian install),
only changed calls, positions, and passcode..
Anyone that would care to help me? An example of your configuration?
Regards
Thomas

You can run both just fine. Just run them. This requires that you are
using the linux kernel's AX.25 with an appropriate device such as a TNC
in KISS mode etc. (aprsdigi always requires that, while aprsd can use
kernel AX.25 or drive the TNC (NOT in KISS mode) directly.)

Are you connecting to it on the right port?
Does the web status page say anything interesting? You can access it at
http://[your server]:14501/

The Xastir software can also function as a digi and igate itself, plus
it gives you the graphical output showing activity in your area. It
does, of course, require X to be running, and quite a number of
auxiliary libraries for full support, but it's been in use here for
quite some time, and works great!

Consider digi_ned as well for excellent smart digipeater software.
Runs on DOS or Linux.

Kernel ax25 is already running, and with aprsd! What confuses me, is that
apparently both aprsd and aprsdigi uses the port "default" call (the one
from axports), as their source call. I can not specify different calls (or
ssid's)
for the different programs. As I understand two programs can not use
the same ssid / call? Or can they?

I connect to my own server on port 1313 with uiview. My own server is
connected to seccond.aprs.net on port 23, and to oz3acc.dyndns.org on
port 1313.
If I view the http status, it says that all is connected, even my uiview.
Should I use another port for "user" connections with ui-view? (It's a bit
confusing with 10 different ports that does allmost the same, but with a
little
bit of difference for each of them, specialy when you are new to aprs)

They can't for connected traffic (as I understand), but it's no problem
for unconnected/UI traffic. I don't believe you can specify different
calls at all... though my memory is fading a bit in this area!

Does it show any packets counted?

I would suggest 14579 perhaps, 1313 is the link port used to connected
aprsd IGATEs together only (if memory serves).

Ok I'll try to let it run both programs for a while and investigate the logs
to see if it works :-)

It shows recieved packets from both internet hosts, that it is connected
to.. But 0 for my uiview client

I have switched to 14579, but still no activity...
hmm.. wait a moment, just tried port 10151 (mainport with history), and it
works. At least I get the history from the server.. So seems like that
problem is solved now..

They can, unless they connect to the same remote station.

There is another option: javAPRSSrvr. javAPRSSrvr is a multi-platform
APRS server application with full featured IGate and APRS digipeater
capabilities. javAPRSSrvr is used on all of the core servers as well as
all of the aprs2.net servers. There are over 100 installations
world-wide. More information can be found at
http://www.aprs-is.net/javaprssrvr
If you are interested in javAPRSSrvr, contact me directly at
pete@ae5pl.net javAPRSSrvr is free for amateur radio use and supports
the Linux ax25 kernel features.

How do you access the kernel AX.25 from Java?
Is it open source?

Using javAX25.
> Is it open source?
javAX25 is open source and hosted on sourceforge.net.
javAPRSSrvr is not open source, but is free for amateur radio use.
javAPRSSrvr is fully supported and maintained. It provides open
interfaces for anyone to write IGate or server adjunct functions.
Currently, there are open source (to users of javAPRSSrvr) interfaces
for AGWPE, KipSS, and Linux ax25. javAPRSFilter (Roger Bille, SM5NRK),
javAPRSDB, javAPRSIGate, and javAPRSDigi are supported adjuncts.
