So is there any other way to get the current version code?

I have the same problem now. But it worked 3 days ago.

$ svn checkout http://svn.netfilter.org/netfilter/trunk/
svn: PROPFIND request failed on '/netfilter/trunk'
svn: 
Could not open the requested SVN filesystem

In case the svn is crush, you can get latest svn snapshot from
ftp://ftp.netfilter.org/pub/iptables/snapshot/

look into pub/ for more stuff.
