Asus K8n-vm
geforce 6100 / nforce 410
Ubuntu dapper 6.06
lm-sensors = 2.9.2-5ubuntu2
Looking at supported devices on lm-sensors site I thought i2c-nforce2 might work. It doesn't auto-install on boot so I modprobe. Here's lsmod output:
i2c_nforce2 7360 0
i2c_dev 10752 0
i2c_core 23168 2 i2c_nforce2,i2c_dev
Here's i2cdetect output:
Error: No i2c-bus specified!
Syntax: i2cdetect [-y] [-a] [-q|-r] I2CBUS [FIRST LAST]
i2cdetect -l
i2cdetect -V
I2CBUS is an integer
With -a, probe all addresses (NOT RECOMMENDED)
With -q, uses only quick write commands for probing (NOT RECOMMENDED)
With -r, uses only read byte commands for probing (NOT RECOMMENDED)
If provided, FIRST and LAST limit the probing range.
With -l, lists installed busses only
Error: No I2C busses found!
Be sure you have done 'modprobe i2c-dev'
and also modprobed your i2c bus drivers
Error: No i2c-bus specified!
Syntax: i2cdetect [-y] [-a] [-q|-r] I2CBUS [FIRST LAST]
i2cdetect -l
i2cdetect -V
I2CBUS is an integer

As you can see it doesn't detect any busses. Is it because the chipset isn't supported yet or... ?
Thanks, Mark

OK, it's probably just a matter of adding this PCI ID to the
i2c-nforce2 driver. It would be nice if Nvidia could be somewhat
consistent in their product names...
Mark, please try the following (as root):
modprobe i2c-nforce2
echo "10de 0264" > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/nForce2_smbus/new_id
It should bring the SMBus to work. If it does, we'll add that ID to the
driver permanently.
Thanks,

Hi Jean,
I followed your instruction but i2cdetect still complains about there being no busses.
Thanks, Mark

Hello,
> >echo "10de 0264" > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/nForce2_smbus/new_id
You may also try to change it in your kernel if you are able to
recompile it on your own.
Just go to the linux/drivers/i2c/busses/i2c-nforce2.c
Find this line:
{ PCI_DEVICE(PCI_VENDOR_ID_NVIDIA, PCI_DEVICE_ID_NVIDIA_NFORCE_MCP04_SMBUS) },
And change it:
{ PCI_DEVICE(PCI_VENDOR_ID_NVIDIA, 0x264) },
Delete the .o and .ko files and recompile whole kernel.
See if it helps.
Also watch the kernel log if there is new message.
We can have more clue from the DSDT acpi table because it seems you
have the special asus ATK0110 virtual device that might handle the bus
and sensors.
Please provide the output of cat /proc/acpi/dsdt > dsdt.bin
and send it to me in private (because mailing list do not like
binary attach or put it online somewhere)
Thanks,
Regards
Rudolf

Remember you must load i2c-dev before running i2cdetect.
