Hello,

I'm using a Asus P5WD2 with a Intel 955X Northbride and a ICH7R
Southbridge. It seems I can't find the correct sensors driver for this
chipset.

Can anybody of you help?

thanks in advance and best regards
Christoph

Yes we can, although this is RTFM question.

-1) RTFM
0) get the lm-sensors package from your distribution or from our web site
1) install it
2) if you compiled your own kernel make sure you have i2c-i801 driver ready
3) run sensors-detect as root
4) this script should tell you what chips you have
5) if you have your own kernel compile missing drivers
6) modprobe the drivers that sensors-detect suggest
7) run the sensors command
8) adjust /etc/sensors.conf to your needs

If you no sensors are detected please send us output of sensors detect.

Well it is transmitted unencrypted and also to public mailing list

Hmm quite irrelevant here

lol

Please can you remove such message in your future mails? I know that this might
be a company policy but it may annoy people round here, so better to avoid such
disclaimers or large footers.

In my job we solved it with special developer mailing list footer :)

Hello,

thanks for the fast reply.

I allready did read the manual, as I have running versions of
LM_Sensors on various machines.
I have patched the kernel according to the INSTALL file. The i2c-i801
is included in the compilation.
When running sensors-detect I get:
Can't access /proc/modules! at /usr/sbin/sensors-detect line 1831.

I know my kernel is not compiled for modules but I thought this would
work without. Did I miss a compilation option for lm_Sensors to work
with a patched instead of a modular kernel?

thanks and regards
Christoph

Hmm this seems as an too old version is used? Are you using 2.10.0 version of
lm-sensors?

If not here is a hack. Just download the 2.10.0 from the website,
exytact archive and go to prog/detect/ run the sensors-detect
program from there.

Then you may load the modules it suggest and generally used the older version
from a distro if it wont have issues.

Rudolf

Hello,

well things partly work now. I get the following output from sensors
(thanks for the hint):
#----cut here----
# I2C adapter drivers
modprobe i2c-i801
modprobe i2c-isa
# I2C chip drivers
modprobe eeprom
modprobe w83627ehf

I have changed the kernel to accept modules for sensors and did a
fresh recompile for the kernel and both lm_sensors and i2c-drivers
(both version 2.10.0). When trying to execute "modprobe w83627ehf" I
get:
/lib/modules/2.4.32/kernel/drivers/i2c/chips/w83627hf.o: init_module:
No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters,
including invalid IO or IRQ parameters
/lib/modules/2.4.32/kernel/drivers/i2c/chips/w83627hf.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.32/kernel/drivers/i2c/chips/w83627hf.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.32/kernel/drivers/i2c/chips/w83627hf.o: insmod
w83627hf failed

As all other recommended modules work ( i do get a readout from the
memory bank) did I miss something?

thanks and regards
Christoph

I guess you are trying the w83627hf because w83627ehf does not exists for 2.4.
However I think someohow forcing the w83627hf might work. I dont have time for
this right know, maybe Jean knows?

Rudolf

No, the W83627EHF chip is different (else we wouldn't have started a
different driver.) Forcing the w83627hf driver will cause more trouble
than is worth. The solution would be to backport the w83627ehf driver
to Linux 2.4, if someone (not me) wants to do that. This is the second
request.
