I had to use options snd-hda-intel model=6stack position_fix=1 index=0
$ lspci
0000:00:14.2 0403: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device 437b (rev 01)
$ lspci -nv
0000:00:14.2 0403: 1002:437b (rev 01)
Subsystem: 1462:7173
Flags: bus master, slow devsel, latency 64, IRQ 201
Memory at febf8000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2
Capabilities: [60] Message Signalled Interrupts: 64bit+ Queue=0/0 Enable-
Hope that helps!
I still got a very annoying problem left though: I cant change the volume using the PCM channel I have to change the volume of Front channel. This is very annoying since all programs with a volume control change the PCM channel which is of no effect.
I would be very glad if you could help me with that.
Please CC me since I am not on the list.
Thanks, Micha

Hm, this implies that model=6stack doesn't match with your devices
well enough. Also, position_fix=1 shouldn't be necessary in the
latest version. Doesn't the driver work without this option?
Provide /proc/asound/card0/codec#* files and /etc/asound.state for
further analysis.

OK, then it's a hardware (or BIOS) bug...

The "PCM" volume control on this codec chip is implemented in the
softvol plugin of alsa-lib. If you use OSS applications over kernel
OSS emulation, it doesn't work.

I checked it again with position_fix=0,1,2 and it only works with 1 (always also using model=6stack).

Great catch! I was indeed using OSS emulation (by accident) by one program and thought it was a general problem. Sorry for that. I configured the program to alsa and volume control does work now. Thank you very much.
