I've been trying to sort out udev and hotplugging.
I though I could just create a simple script in
/etc/hotplug/usb and add a line to the usb.usermap
that would run the script when a usb disk is plugged
in.
The problem is that the devices are not created until
after the hotplugging scripts have finished.
I've done ls -l /dev > /homedir/file in the
/etc/hotplug/usb/script and the devices /dev/sda and
/dev/sda1 are not there, but as soon as the
hotplugging is finished the devices exist.

Forget about /etc/hotplug/, you need to write a RUN rule for udev.
