  Thanks, that seems to match what I'm seeing and is a good explaination.

  ObReference: I use Xen in two ways

    1.  Xen hosting, where each guest has a lot of memory and
       dom0 just has a tiny amount of memory, set via dom0_mem

    2.  My desktop machine which has 0-4 guests running at any given
       moment.

  For the desktop case it is really noticeable when dom0 hasn't
 had the memory returned to it; firefox gets sluggish and xine
 doesn't work so well...
