Hi all,
 First of all let me congratulate everybody on 1.96 release. Just one
of the users who has been waiting to see what u guys cook :)

Now for the first time I'm able to see something other than the
rectangular box but the problem is it passes too quickly. I want to
make sure that it takes atleast 10 mins or infinity till I make a
choice.

There was a minor bug that it was going in a loop but somebody
reported it & it has been documented & a workaround done.

For increasing the timeout in the menu nothing helped :(  I get to see
something like a menu & it goes away & I see a bar where I don't know
what is to be done.

I tried to find some documentation but there doesn't seem to be any
documentation. No manuals or anything in /usr/share/doc . So here's

I changed the timeout from 100 to 1000

This is from the /etc/default/grub

From this it seems I need to run the sudo update-grub argument but
with some argument/option. I tried to see if update-grub has some
documentation but even update-grub. So any help would be appreciated
as to how do I go about changing the timeout to a more better process.

Ugh, that "; then" looks really bad.  Who told you to put that in your
grub.cfg ? :-)

Regenerate it with update-grub.  And if you get the "syntax error" infin loop,
just make sure you're running the latest version.  This is a bug we fixed a
while ago.

As for who told me that, it is one of the things which is suggested in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/190147

Of course, the best thing as they say would be to re-install grub
but my problem is, I don't know enough.

As can be seen above, grub.cfg says all the boot images are at (hd1,1)
while /boot/grub/menu.lst (remains of grub legacy) say it is at
(hd0,0) . In fact it says Grub2 is also at hd0,0

I did a find at the grub CLI & I got this interesting output :-


Error 18: Selected cylinder exceeds maximum supported by BIOS.

So I'm willing to re-install grub but this is with should I be
reinstalling it in hd1,1 or hd0,0 & how do I go about finding which
one it is?

Hi all,
    Some more info. I have 2 hard disk drives. One is a 160 IDE HDD &
the other 80 GB IDE HDD.

160 GB = Other OSS = IDE0
  80 GB = GNU/Linux = IDE1

I hope somebody can help me, thanx.
