FYI, if we want to participate the Google Summer of Code as a part of the GNU 
Project, we must provide information now or soon. The question is not about 
ideas for students, but who wants to be the mentor. If you are willing to do, 
let me know.

Sure. So we now need to accumulate ideas. They will be published in the GNU's:

or, in our own page, as we did last year.

Personally, I wish to see a progress about fancy menu support or network 
support.

If there is a need to have mentor on HW aspects (or GFX stuff) I can 
lend a hand.

Unfortunately, I cannot be a mentor because I want to participate as a
student.  So most likely you will see an application from me for
networking, USB or whatever ;-)

that's great, network support for grub2 is really important.

maybe i can work on fancy menu or improved scripting engine.

Do you want to participate as a student or as a mentor?

For scripting I have several ideas.  I once sent an email about my
ideas to the list.  I guess we can discuss this to come up with a
better design.

Thanks for the link. I've gone through all the posts in the thread, it
seems some important function is still not implemented, maybe i can
look into it when i have time.

btw, i have an idea about the iteration of grub objects. perhaps we
can add a new file system (proc), so that we can write the commands
like this:

for x in (proc)/modules/* ; do commands; done

Modules that export iterator can call a function like this:

register_procfs(name, func);

Also, about the local path, we can implement it using variable $pwd,
for example:

root=(hd0,0)
pwd=/boot/

then,

/aa -> (hd0,0)/aa
aa -> (hd0,0)/boot/aa

Being a mentor does not prevent you from writing code (outside the SoC).

Anyway, if you don't take part as a mentor, it means that we have no mentor, 
except for Vesa. Vesa, are you willing to be a mentor, even if the task is 
different from your expertise or preference? Without a mentor, we cannot 
participate.

I take a good look at the soc requirement, it seems i'm not eligible
as student, but i can take part as a mentor if you still need one.
