Hi,
You should maybe try the patches that Matthias Schwarzott made for
non-hybrid variant of the A700 card (the one I use). They implement the add
DVB-S support for that card, and it's running fine now for me. don't know
if these patches might be also valid for the Hybrid version, but it's
probably worth the try.
You can find the patches in the Avermedia A700 wiki page of LinuxTV,
here:
http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/AVerMedia_AVerTV_DVB-S_Pro_%28A700%29<http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/AVerMedia_AVerTV_DVB-S_Pro_%2528A700%2529>
Take the lastest full diff file from ZZam's repository and apply it
over the current HG tree. If you are unsure about how to proceed, myou
should first take a look at the howto page regarding LinuxTV drivers
install:
http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/How_to_install_DVB_device_drivers
Good luck :D

Hi,
thank you for your answer,
may i ask,
what is meant by "analog input", it is mentioned on logs that:" only
analog inputs supported yet.." like that..
is that mean: s-video, composit ?
(i installed mythtv on ubuntu kernel 2.6.26.rc2 , it shows in input
connections only svideo and composit... )
i want to scan air-tv channels, and dvb-s channels...
aren't these supported yet ?
i will check your suggestions... and try...
thanks again

yes, only s-video and composite is enabled there.
Better we would have print only external analog inputs.

Not with 2.6.26, but likely with Matthias' patches.

Should we patch this to print a more clear log message.

It is up to you. Mauro might pick it up later.
To print something was already a good service, but seems people try on
everything as soon there is the slightest hope without looking into the
logs and doing "hg export 7507".
Here even I think the confusion is mostly caused by the reason the users
can't override the tuner defined on the card anymore on current stuff.
That happened after your patches.
And if TUNER_ABSENT is on the card nothing is printed anymore and they
sit in the dark without at least tuner debug enabled to have an idea,
that tuner modules are not sharp in this case I guess.
Cheers,
Hermann

Yeah. The patch already merged into v4l-dvb repository and also merged into
kernel 2.6.26 does only support s-video and compite input of both A700 cards
(Avermedia AverTV dvb-s Pro and AverTV DVB-S Hybrid+FM).
The other pending patches do add support for DVB-S input to both card
versions. But this is not yet ready for being merged.
At least here the tuning is not yet reliable for some frequencies (or does get
no lock depending very hardly on some tuner gain settings). But most
transponders of Astra-19.2°E I can get a good lock.
This is the latest version of the patch:
http://dev.gentoo.org/~zzam/dvb/a700_full_20080519.diff
About RF analog input I cannot do much, as I do not have the hardware, and for
XC2028 tuner one needs to check out the GPIO configuration.
If you would like to help you could try out or trace gpio lines some way to
get RF input running. As far as I know to get XC2028 running you need to find
out which pin does reset the tuner to finish firmware uploading.
Regards
Matthias

Thanks for your clarification, Matthias.
For your information, I've been tested extensively the driver these last
days and I can say it has been working really fine for me. I've had no
glitches while using it inside MythTV, changing channels works fine, also
recording shows, etc... No issues on this part.
The only minor issue is the one I yet mentioned in a previous mail: I can't
find any channels on Astra 19.2 when using the default frequency table file
located in /usr/share/dvb/dvb-s/Astra 19.2, but ir works fine when using the
alternative file obtained from
http://joshyfun.peque.org/transponders/kaffeine.html.

Eduard

Can somebody tell me, how to apply Matthias Schwarzott's patches;
* where is patches ?
* what is base package/patch ?
* is there any special command/way, or is it standard patch -p1 command, ?
to inform you, my linux knowledge:
i am a linux system programmer, system engineer,
but i have no much knowledge about kernel compile, kernel patching,
only in last week, i did (firstly in my life) 2 successfull compiles
of kernel 2.6.26.rc2 (but i could not get sound... )
i use ubuntu hardy 8.04, i used
http://www.howtoforge.com/kernel_compilation_ubuntu to compile new
kernel.
i hope i will be able to apply matthias' patches... if i can get correct info...
how i can help you/v4l/dvb/linuxtv/linux/kernel community:
(i am no kernel developer, but i can test basic codes, or apply basic
patches, i have basic c programming skills.. i program php, bash,
python, )
* i can test new drivers with my hardware, i currently have avertv
dvb-s hybrid+fm card..
* i can make small fixes to code, drivers, but i need assistance
firstly an assistance on how to start, howto do...
* ?? anything else... ??
See you,

i just compiled kernel version 2.6.26.rc2 on my ubuntu linux 8.04,
many things including sound not working, but i got finally name of my
tv/dvb card on dmesg output.
previously i was getting UNKNOWN/GENERIC on dmesg for my tv card,
i use tvtime-scanner or tvtime, it does not scan, even analog channels,
i use following to try new tuners, :
rmmod saa7134
modprobe saa7134 card=141 tuner=2
i run these two lines fo rtuner 0,1,2,3 and so on... to try different
tuner numbers... on some numbers, computers locks down.. i had to
reset...
currently i have two questions:
1- what is correct statements/commands to be able to scan tv channels...
2- the log says only analog inputs available now, when it will be
possible to watch dvb channels ?
3- what is best/good tutorials/sites that describe/help in
dvb/tv/multimedia for ubuntu/linux, (i already looked linuxtv,
searched google, many sites..)
thanks.
