Given that the spam problem on this list is getting really out of hand,
I'm giving thought to the idea of asking davem to host a new list
on vger.kernel.org

Unless there's any objection over the next few days, I'll make
arrangements, and change the default bugzilla destination etc.

No objection from me. If anyone wants the mailman list archives, let me
know and I'll tar them up.

I'd like to see the mailman notifications of around 1000 held messages
from this list disappearing too, so expect this list to be deleted once
the new one is up and running. 8)

Ok. cpufreq@vger.kernel.org has been created.

Send 'subscribe cpufreq' in the body of the mail to 'majordomo@vger.kernel.org'
to join up.

Okay, to encourage people to move, I will be deleting this list on
Sunday.

I've received no requests for the archives; unless I do before Sunday,
I shall assume no one's interested and they'll also go into the circular
filing cabinet.

Why is just the list moving, and not also the list of subscribers?

Deleting the archives would be a nightmare, in my opinion. Not sure, though,
on where to keep or host them.

Best,

I can dump out the current subscriber list from mailman. However,
in my experience of running mailing lists, spammers tactics now
include subscribing to mailing lists before sending their junk to
the list. (This happens even with the confirmations.)

So it's probably cleaner to ask everyone to resubscribe than it is
to transport the subscriber list.

If I delete the list, the links to the archive vanish. I can leave
the archive sitting around, but it will effectively become an orphan.
Also, cpufreq is the last real list on the machine, so after it goes,
we're probably not going to maintain mailman here any longer - which
increases the chance of it being lost.

Therefore, I'd prefer someone else to host them.

Currently, the archives are around 180MB (that's including all the
pipermail data - mbox archives, html, databases, indexes etc).

It would be good to save at least the mbox archives somewhere. While
nobody today might be too interested on these archives, in the future
someone might want them (I recall there being some people trying to
reconstruct the archives of the LKML, for instance). Unfortunately, I
also have no idea on where to host them; perhaps somewhere on the public
downloads area of kernel.org?

Dominik Brodowski has a copy of them now. If anyone else wants to snarf
a copy:

http://lists.linux.org.uk/mailman/private/cpufreq/cpufreq.mbox/cpufreq.mbox.bz2
http://lists.linux.org.uk/mailman/private/cpufreq/cpufreq.mbox/cpufreq-commit.mbox.bz2

It's about 10MB in total. But you'd better be quick, they'll be gone in
about 24 hours.
