I think that's more or less how udev is *supposed* to be used.
It's weird for a bit, then it makes sense.
Especially as it can integrate nicely with distro scripts, e.g.
for networking.
But HAL and PolicyKit etc. turn it all on its head and you soon get
lost in a twisty maze of configuration files.
