Any progress on this chipset? It's being used on this ITX motherboard
and it would be nice to read temps since there is minimal cooling due
to size constraints.

I've added your request to wiki/Devices.

BTW, did you have visual confirmation of the chip's name? Rumor says
that there's a chip named IT8758E with device ID 0x8721.

Turns out it is an IT8758E...
http://tiny.cc/j6h31
I assumed 8721 since that's what the latest sensors-detect read back.

The wiki states a datasheet has been provided for the IT8721F. Can I
get a copy of this? I may try my hand at supporting my chipset...

Good afternoon, Jae, Jean,
>>> Rumor says that there's a chip named IT8758E with device ID 0x8721.
This is true. See a message about "Kernel support for ITE8758E" from a few
days back.
This motherboard is a Shuttle SX58; rrd output from my hacked it87.ko and
sensors.conf can be seen here:
http://sensors.cs.uchicago.edu/cgi-bin/kailash.rrdcgi
Attached are patches to it87.c (vs linux-2.6.35.4), sensors-detect (vs
lm-sensors-3.1.2), and a sensors.conf for this motherboard.
I also have a picture of the chip, and it matches the SMD packaging Jae
provided.
Please let me know how else I can help.

Was able to get temperature readings on my ECS H55H-I. Not really
sure how to configure the sensors.conf for my mobo but all I'm really
interested in is temperature so I think I am there.
Not sure about the temperature scaling:
temp1: +49.0°C (low = -1.0°C, high = +127.0°C) sensor = thermistor
temp2: -128.0°C (low = -1.0°C, high = +127.0°C) sensor = disabled
temp3: +37.0°C (low = +127.0°C, high = +80.0°C) sensor = thermal diode
49 and 37 seem pretty low but if they're right I'd be really happy.
Thanks for the patches Virgil!

Per your output, I'd do, for example:
root@box:~# mv /etc/sensors.conf{,.orig}
root@box:~# cat <<-EOF > /etc/sensors.conf
chip "it8758-*"
ignore temp2 # since sensor = disabled
label temp1 "CPU0 Temp" # check BIOS name and value
label temp3 "System Temp" # check BIOS name and value
set temp1_min 15
set temp1_max 70 # min(CPU junction specs, your idea of hot :-)
set temp3_min 20
set temp3_max 80 # ibid.
EOF
root@box:~# sensors -s # to set the min/max values

I recommend you check those values (and names) against what the BIOS reports.
There should be an entry in the BIOS labeled PC Health or similar.
On the same page you should also see voltages for CPU, RAM, & co.
Note I don't trust at all the voltage equations I wrote, since I didn't go read the datasheet for the chip; it looks like it's impossible to find.
Thank you,
Virgil

I am not sure about the patch itself. It doesn't sound like a good idea
to just add it to the code blindly without datasheet.
Adding chip detection to sensors-detect should be ok, though.
Jean, any comments ?

This is rather unlikely IMHO. The fact that only temp3 has type thermal diode and only temp3 has its high limit set to a sensible
value, my own guess is that temp3 is the CPU temperature. Which would
leave temp1 for the system temperature.
Obviously CPU temperature lower than system temperature is suspicious,
so there may be some offset to apply. In any case it would be
interesting to see what the BIOS reports.

We do have a datasheet. It's not public as far as I know, we got it
from ITE. I can confirm that your voltages are wrong, as the
IT8721F/IT8758E has a 12mV ADC instead of 16mV as all other supported
chips have. So all your raw voltage readings are 33% higher than they
should be.
Virgil, I'm adding you to the list of people interested in
IT8721F/IT8758E support.

You're right, Virgil's patch is just a hack, no better than just
loading the driver with force_id. Not good enough for us to apply it.
Actual support for the IT8721F/IT8758E will require more work than this.
Maybe I can give it a try, as I have the datasheet...
