nouveau and multiple video cards

nouveau and multiple video cards

Hi,

is it possible to setup one virtual screen with 2 video cards and 3 monitors?


My setup looks like this:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G72 [GeForce 7300 SE/7200 GS]
(rev a1)
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G84 [GeForce 8600 GT] (rev a1)


02:00.0 is my primary video card with two monitors connected. 01:00.0 has one monitor
connected.

xrandr only shows me 2 outputs :/

Is there something special I have to do or is it not possible to use such a setup
with nouveau?

Currently not possible with nouveau. This is partially a limitation of
the X server, not just nouveau.

I don't think it will be possible in the near future, there is a fair
bit of work involved and no one is actively pursuing it as far as I
know. Maybe nvidia's driver can do this for you now.

I hope it is ok if I would ask one last question:

It is possible to use a quadro NVS 450 with 3 monitors via DVI and nouveau?


The status matrix is kind of old (e.g. it says that dual link dvi is WIP, it works
for me good :)) and I dont find that quado NVS 450 on it.

If the card can actually drive 3 monitors at once with the nvidia
driver then it should work in nouveau now or can be implemented with
some reversing. Maybe someone who knows more about mode setting can
give you a definitive answer.

I don't believe there's any NVIDIA GPUs with more than 2 CRTCs.  At
least, none I've seen.

There are boards which can drive 4 displays, but they're actually
dual-GPU boards.
