Hi,
Can I run Intel vTune program that uses hardware events from the PMU, for profiling, on my linux VM on KVM? Also, what is the current state of PMU support for guest VMs on KVM?.

No, unfortunately you can't. vTune does not honor cpuid bits correctly
and uses unsupported MSRs. This should be fixed in future version of
vTune though. What vTune gives you that perf does not?
