This branch has a quite complicated history with several merges. It
seems to me that it can stand on its own as a fix on top of 50e1b29b4438,
which is in our next/drivers branch.

So, I've just cherry-picked this specific fix onto that branch. Given
the proximity to the merge window I'm gambling that this doesn't mess
up your downstream branches too much.
