Agenda: Extend RDMA Device Memory concepts to kernel Verbs

Device memory allows RDMA applications to allocate buffers on the device, and use them as a source/target of subsequent RDMA data transfers.
A few weeks ago we discussed the motivation and primary use-cases for user applications.

This week, we will extend the model to kernel use-cases and review a proposal for the corresponding kernel Verbs.

Why?  

Why shouldn't ideas like this be discussed in any relevant forum, particularly one which is dedicated to this very purpose?  Certainly it ultimately needs to be discussed on linux-rdma, but I can see no reason for shutting down discussion beforehand on a relevant forum.

In oder to have a fruitful discussion its useful to have some time to
think about it before talking about it. Otherwise a lot of time may be
spent on questions while people process the new ideas.

It also allows those on the mailing list that do not have time to dial in
to participate.

Hi Christoph,

At this stage, we just wanted to discuss the concepts and listen to considerations and concerns as a head start.
Obviously, the actual API and implementation would be discussed on the list following an initial RFC/patch-set...

Basically, we want to follow the same lines of the user-space API described in [1], with additional kernel user-cases.
