Not able to send mail to the mailing list

Hello everyone,

I am following the instructions of the outreachy first patch tutorial. But 
even after setting up everything in the "submit a patch" section , I have 
not been able to send mails.
Instead of using git send-email or mutt, is there any other way that I 
could possibly send the mails ?  If not, could someone help me out with the 
configurations for email setup?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Neetu,

Can you tell what error you are facing? We might be able to help you
better in that case.  Also, if you are on a university network,
there's a high chance that the network security stops you from sending
mails using mutt/ git send-email. Your best bet in that case will be
contacting your network admin or using some other network.

Yes, I am using university network, thank you or pointing that out.
so, is there any other way that I coultl send my patches ( i.e without 
using mutt or git send-email)?

What is the exact error you are getting?

Are you sure you are not sending html email?  Your emails to the list
are in html format, and the kernel mailing lists will block that type of
email, for obvious reasons.

And what is wrong with using mutt?  It works just fine with gmail, along
with git send-email, so the same server you are using to send this email
should work just fine with those two tools.

Hello sir,

In case of git-send email,when I send a mail to myself,it shows "Result : 
OK", but I don't get a mail in my inbox.
In case of mutt: it shows:
connecting to smtp.gmail.com...
Could not connect to smtp.gmail.com (Network is unreachable).

I don't know what the issue might be.

Well, this is a common issue with gmail I guess. Have you done 'Gmail setup'
mentioned in a first patch tutorial?

Check out this stackoverflow link[1] as well. You need to allow gmail
for less secure
apps and in the case of 2 factor authentication, generate and use App password.

Also, please use your full name in the gitconfig [unrelatable to the issue you
are facing].

But I have already enabled gmail for less secure apps and also enabled 
IMAP. I don't have 2 step authentication.
Also , when I use this as gitconfig:

up in HTML format.
But I followed your video tutorial on sending the first patch, and did this:

gmail almost never shows you a message that you sent yourself, through
its servers, which is why this is probably not showing up.  Try sending
it to some other email address you "know" is ok to use for testing, or
just try it for real if you think it is now working.

Also, you are still sending email in html format, please change that in
your email client settings on gmail.  All of the linux kernel developer
mailing lists will reject such mail automatically.

Hey Neetu,

I faced the same problem and as Gargi already said, if you are on 
university network then your university might be blocking some ports. Take 
a data connection on your mobile and use mobile hotspot for sending patches.

Yes, I am using a university network and thank you for pointing that out. 
It probably saved me hours of struggling to find a solution.
I did not realize that this might be the case.
I will get a data connection and try again.
