Hi All,
We've seeing docs build failures:
https://valkyrie.yoctoproject.org//#/builders/34/builds/6
The issue is that inkscape isn't installed on the workers and isn't in
the docs buildtools tarball either.
I'm reluctant to start requiring installing inkscape on all autobuilder
workers as we try and keep the packages installed minimal for the other
builds.
I'm wondering if we should just pre-generate those png files alongside
the svg sources? I can send a patch doing that...
Cheers,
Richard

Antonin was suggesting using librsvg in an email you didn't receive, I'm
going to forward it to you.

This will necessarily mean we'll forget to update one or the other :/
It's bound to happen.
librsvg is Rust-based IIRC, so that adds up A LOT of build time to
generate the buildtools tarball.
For my company's user manual, we use rsvg-convert (which seems to be
coming from librsvg :) ).
Cheers,
Quentin

Well, one is clearly derived from the other and listed in the makefile
so I'd hope that makes it clear and relatively easy to fix.
I know what you mean though.

I think that ship has sailed...

That could be easier for us to build rather than the whole of inkscape.
Cheers,
Richard

I don't think it's Rust-based, I was using librsvg2-2 which provides
rsvg-convert, and has the following dependencies on debian/ubuntu:
libc6 (>= 2.34), libcairo-gobject2 (>= 1.10.0), libcairo2 (>= 1.15.12),
libgcc-s1 (>= 4.2), libgdk-pixbuf-2.0-0 (>= 2.31.1), libglib2.0-0 (>= 2.50.0),
libpango-1.0-0 (>= 1.45.5), libpangocairo-1.0-0 (>= 1.44.0), libxml2 (>= 2.9.0)
So yes, using rsvg-convert from this package would probably a lighter option
compared to inkscape. It's also what Sphinx uses to convert images using the
"sphinx.ext.imgconverter" extension (this would need to be double-checked though
I'm not sure) with its LaTeX builder, I believe.
Cheers,
Antonin

Rust binaries don't have runtime dependencies on anything rust-based.
It's all statically linked in.
But for building them rust is very much required:
https://packages.debian.org/source/sid/librsvg
