This is part B of a 3-part CV75 v3 split:
A: bindings + RCT/CCU clocks + SoC/EVK DT + MAINTAINERS
B: pinctrl + PL061 GPIO variant (this series)
C: 8250_dw UART quirks
Depends on series A:
https://lore.kernel.org/r/20260813-cv75-v3-a-v3-0-cfdd20b1b4dd@ambarella.com
Link to v2:
https://lore.kernel.org/r/20260806-longzhao-upstream-cv75-v2-v2-0-6b09707c5fe9@ambarella.com
Summary:
- CV75 pinctrl binding and driver
- Ambarella register-layout variant for gpio-pl061
Changes since v2 (B scope):
- reuse PL061 with Ambarella register-layout variant (Linus)
- model each GPIO bank as a separate DT/AMBA primecell node (Linus)
- complete function/groups enums in the pinctrl binding (Krzysztof)
Verified on CV75 with A+B+C.

Extend gpio-pl061 with a per-variant register layout so the Ambarella
CV75 GPIO banks can reuse the PL061 driver instead of a duplicate.

* [PATCH v3 2/3] gpio: pl061: add Ambarella CV75 register layout variant
@ 2026-08-13 10:19 ` Long Zhao via B4 Relay
0 siblings, 0 replies; 11+ messages in thread
From: Long Zhao via B4 Relay @ 2026-08-13 10:19 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Linus Walleij, Rob Herring, Krzysztof Kozlowski, Conor Dooley,
Bartosz Golaszewski
Cc: linux-gpio, devicetree, linux-arm-kernel, linux-kernel, Long Zhao
From: Long Zhao <longzhao@ambarella.com>
Extend gpio-pl061 with a per-variant register layout so the Ambarella
CV75 GPIO banks can reuse the PL061 driver instead of a duplicate.

Cc: linux-gpio, devicetree, linux-arm-kernel, linux-kernel, Long Zhao
From: Long Zhao <longzhao@ambarella.com>
Add an Ambarella pinmux-only pinctrl driver with CV75 function/group
tables. GPIO is handled by the PL061 driver.

[Severity: Low]
Does the ambarella vendor prefix exist in vendor-prefixes.yaml?
Running make dt_binding_check will fail because this vendor prefix is not
documented in the device tree bindings registry. Should this commit (or a
prerequisite patch) add it to prevent validation errors?

Thank you for your contribution! Sashiko AI review found 3 potential issue(s) to consider:
- [High] The probe function unconditionally clears the entire `afsel` (alternate function select) register for the whole GPIO bank, breaking bootloader pinmux state.
- [High] Silent removal of memory barriers from I/O accesses by switching to `_relaxed` accessors.
- [High] The newly added `mask` register is restored in `pl061_resume` without acquiring `pl061->lock`, breaking the atomicity of the `mask` and `data` register sequence.

commit fe14f60fc7b7fd8cd63e65496225f1d2973a8ad1
Author: Long Zhao <longzhao@ambarella.com>
gpio: pl061: add Ambarella CV75 register layout variant
This commit extends the gpio-pl061 driver with a per-variant register layout.
This allows the Ambarella CV75 GPIO banks to reuse the PL061 driver instead
of duplicating the code.

[Severity: High]
Does switching from readb/writeb to the _relaxed accessors introduce memory
ordering regressions?
Since the original driver used the standard non-relaxed I/O accessors, this
change drops the implicit memory barriers on all accesses. Can this cause
CPU reordering of GPIO writes ahead of memory writes for drivers that depend
on memory writes being visible before signaling hardware?

[Severity: High]
Is it safe to write 0 to the entire afsel register during initialization?
By unconditionally zeroing out the alternate function selection during probe,
does this blindly force all pins into GPIO mode and disconnect any active
peripherals configured by the bootloader or early firmware?

[Severity: High]
Should pl061_resume hold pl061->lock when restoring the mask register?
Writing to the mask register without the lock breaks atomicity between mask
and data accesses. If an interrupt fires here and triggers a concurrent
pl061_set_data on another CPU, could the resume function overwrite the
mask register before the concurrent thread completes its data write, causing
it to update the wrong pins?

Thank you for your contribution! Sashiko AI review found 2 potential issue(s) to consider:
- [Medium] Signed integer overflow (shift out of bounds) when `offset` is 31.
- [Low] Uninitialized stack variables are consumed if `regmap_read` fails in `amb_pinconf_dbg_show`.

Author: Long Zhao <longzhao@ambarella.com>
pinctrl: ambarella: add CV75 pin controller
Add an Ambarella pinmux-only pinctrl driver with CV75 function/group
tables. GPIO is handled by the PL061 driver.

[Severity: Medium]
Will this cause a signed integer overflow when offset is 31?
Since PINID_TO_OFFSET() masks with 0x1f, offset can be up to 31.
Using 0x1 (a signed 32-bit integer) and shifting it left by 31 results in
undefined behavior and may trigger a UBSAN shift-out-of-bounds splat.
Could this be changed to use 1U or the BIT() macro to avoid the overflow?

[Severity: Low]
Does this code consume an uninitialized stack variable if regmap_read() fails?
If the register read fails, pull_en remains uninitialized, and its stack
memory will be consumed in the bitwise operation and eventually printed to
userspace via debugfs.
Should the return values of regmap_read() be checked here to prevent leaking
kernel stack data and triggering KMSAN warnings, similar to how they are
checked in amb_pinconf_get()?
