Subject: CVE-2026-90402: bus: mhi: host: Fix controller cleanup on EDL sysfs failure
Date: Thu, 17 Sep 2026 17:13:52 +0100	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <2026091714-CVE-2026-90402-89ea@gregkh> (raw)

From: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@kernel.org>

Description
===========

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

bus: mhi: host: Fix controller cleanup on EDL sysfs failure

mhi_register_controller() adds the controller device before creating the
optional trigger_edl sysfs file. If sysfs_create_file() fails, the error
path only drops the device reference and leaves the device registered.

Hence, call device_del() in the error path before put_device().

The Linux kernel CVE team has assigned CVE-2026-90402 to this issue.

Mitigation
==========

The Linux kernel CVE team recommends that you update to the latest
stable kernel version for this, and many other bugfixes. Individual
changes are never tested alone, but rather are part of a larger kernel
release. Cherry-picking individual commits is not recommended or
supported by the Linux kernel community at all. If however, updating to
the latest release is impossible, the individual changes to resolve this
issue can be found at these commits:
