Hello,
I am currently using LVM driver version 0.9.1_beta6 with a 2.2.19
kernel. I am planning to upgrade to kernel version 2.4.6 or maybe
2.4.7-pre6. What LVM version should I compile into the kernel? Should I
stay with 0.9.1_beta6 or jump up to 0.9.1_beta7? I did extend a logical
volume using 0.9.1_beta6 if that makes any difference.

If you can wait for LVM 0.9.1 Beta 8, you should.
We are just some days away from that release (hopefully ;-)
FYI: LVM 0.9.1 Beta6/7 have a misalignment bug which causes errors when using
snapshots on such misaligned PVs.

No, it doesn't.

Whatever happened to the 1.0 release? I haven't seen anything on the LVM
lists explains what the current holdups and new timeframe are.

I announced the holdup caused by the misalignment bugs we found.
We'll need to release another Beta ASAP to get test feedback on that.

I saw that, but there seems to have been a consensus on a fix
for that for over a week now already.

Fixing it isn't the problem, ensuring people with existing VG's can
use the new driver/tools *is* the problem. The pe positions weren't
being stored in the metadata before beta8 :( So we have to upgrade
peoples VG's. I understand that Heinz has written the upgrade tool,
but I'm not sure how much testing he wants before we release.

Every Sistina LVM team member needs to test, that up-/downgrades work propperly
before we release. The regular tests need to be run as well.

Hi,
Got a quick question. I just bought a 120GB hard drive for my system. I am
currently running lvm-1.0.6, but I am also considering upgrading to lvm2.
Right now, I have the following:
hda Maxtor 30GB
hdb LG DVD ROM
hdc Maxtor 30GB
hdd LG CD-RW
hde WD 30GB
The 30GB drive on hde (on the on-board Promise PDC20265 controller) locks the
system when I boot with the drive connected. Not sure if it is a bad drive or
some idiosyncracy with the controller. Now I have been told that you take a
pretty severe performance hit on the controller with a drive and a CD on the
same chain. So what I am thinking i
s
hda Maxtor 30GB
hdb Maxtor 30GB
hdc WD 120GB
hdd WD 30GB
hde DVD ROM
hdf CD-RW
or
hdg CD-RW
What would be the best drive configuration and upgrade path to lvm2? I'm
particularly concerned about scattering the drives to the wind and "losing"
them to lvm or having a lot of bogus lvm data floating around that I can't
get rid of.
Thoughts?
