ReiserFS treats quota information as data, not metadata. Your quota
file was corrupted. Have you had any crashes lately? You may find the
data-logging patches to be helpful. The "quotacheck" utility will
rebuild the quota file; depending on the extent of corruption, you can
expect to lose some or all information about quota limits. However, the
quota usage information will then be accurate. Can you reconstruct your
current quota limits from another source?

This looks like corrupted quota file. quotacheck(8) should be able
to fix it (but probably you should check that limits are set properly -
some of them might got lost). 2.4.18 kernel has a small race which can
occur under heavy load and cause such corruption so I suggest you
updating to newer kernel...

Hi
I configured quotas on my reiserfs system about a half year ago. Now the
machine is running 2.4.18.
A few days ago, the electricity went away for a short time and forced a
hard reboot. The machine got up and running without problems - nearly.
Now I regularly get quota-related errors (se later).
I am a little unsure what to do; will quotacheck fix this? reiserfsck?
The partition is relatively small, so I could pretty easily back it up
and run various tests and fixes on it.
Before I begin, pehaps someone would like me to debug the file system; I
am willing to help find out what caused the error.
The machine is a standard PC with a VIA vt82c586b IDE controller and a
IBM-DTLA-307030 (with write-caching turned off).

error -5 means I/O error.
Any reiserfs related messages in logs?
Also please try to run latest reiserfsck on that partition and see if it finds
any problems.

Running quotacheck should fix the errors. You'll need to run it after
each crash.
