First note that I am a layman.
I have installed 2 md partitions, one for each of my SuSe linux systems.
On booting either system, md1 is rarely ever 'clean', and cleaning takes
a great deal of capacity for quite a long time.
Is there any remedy ?
Thanks for your attention.

Michel,
If your autostarting both arrays or starting both arrays from two
seperate hosts, you will notice this problem.
Your problem could be something else, however.
