Hi,
I'm trying to develop an application which does four channel
playback of audio using an SBLive. Has had anyone have success
doing this with alsa or any other sound driver ?
So far I haven't had any success.

The application called "xine" at http://xine.sf.net does 4 channel
playback of audio when one uses xine to play DVDs.
xine also does 5.1 channel playback.
