Hello!

Sigh, this is the out-of-schedule bugfix release that we release
because reiserfsprogs-3.6.5 and reiserfsprogs-3.6.6 introduced one additional
check that is not necessary, but breaks on old filesystems (the journal
parameters check) and lots of users are affected.
The only change in this release compared to 3.6.6 is changing the check
to be only performed in case of relocated journal.

   Grab it from ftp://ftp.namesys.com/pub/reiserfsprogs/reiserfsprogs-3.6.7.tar.gz

If you are just a user, you might want not to grab this release because you have
rebuilt your superblock most probably. If you are representing a distro, and
you are shipping/planning to ship reiserfsprogs-3.6.[56], you need this
   release instead.

This change was sent to some people already (namely to Ed Boraas), but it turned out
the patch was against wrong tree and did not apply to reiserfsprogs-3.6.6 at all.

   Sorry for all the confusion.

(And reiserfsprogs-3.6.7-pre1 is still the latest code in fact, Vitaly might release it
as reiserfsprogs-3.6.8-pre1 after May 11th, when all these long boring russian
    holidays are over)

Bye,
    Oleg

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm currently using 3.6.3, I'm just a
user should I be installing 3.6.7 ? I don't understand the bit about
rebuilding the superblock.

Well, you might want to get 3.6.7 because of all the bugfixes since 3.6.3.

Bye,
    Oleg

That's what I thought, but the "you might want not to grab this release
because..." made me wonder if there was some reason why I shouldn't.

Ah, hm. So that should in fact sound "If you already have 3.6.6 and
it works for you already, you do not need to upgrade to 3.6.7,
if you have any earlier version, it is recommended to upgrade to 3.6.7"

Does this version sounds more clear?

Bye,
    Oleg

Of course, most people won't find out if 3.6.6 is working or not until
they're not in a position to upgrade at that moment...

This is actually a serious issue for some places - what are people doing
for certification/acceptance testing for recovery tools such as fsck,
backup/restore, etc?

Well, if they don't know, that means they don't have 3.6.6 yet. ;)

No, it means they installed 3.6.6, and they're watching the messages
scroll by and saying "<BLEEP> we need 3.6.7 instead"... ;)
