The current tree from kernel.org claims in linux/include/sound/version.h
that only Alsa 0.9.7 is integrated. Is that correct?

Yes, in Andrew Morton's (mm) tree is more updated ALSA and you can get
latest patches from:
ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/kernel-patches
We fixed all of serious bugs now so I will ask Linus to sync with our BK
tree today.

Another point: With the release of 1.0, I really think that ALSA should
be integrated into 2.4 (while Marcelo still accepts such updates).
Reasoning: 2.4 isn't going to die for quite a while and having a uniform
way of ALSA integration into the various distros would be helpful
(does RedHat aka Fedora habe ALSA support by now?)
It would also send a clear message to developers that ALSA is the way to
go, not OSS and ALSA with the 1.0 API and not something older (Wine comes
to my mind).
ciao

great! alsamixer does not segfault anymore with exec-shield.
but I have some problems with v1.0.2: sample rate 44100 does not work,
it was fine with v1.0.1.

I am having problem compiling it against 2.6.2-rc1 linux kernel.
Basically, after configure, make only patches some files and does not
compile any modules so that make install produces:

I just alsa-driver-1.0.0-rc2 and it works fine.

PS The configure command used was
./configure --with-sequencer=yes --with-oss=yes --with-cards=intel8x0m

i loudly complain about the fact that you reupload at least
alsa-lib-1.0.2 tarball with some changes w/o any notification (neither
on alsa web site, nor in some ftp server notification file nor in this
ml).
this is just plain innacceptable.
we only found it because some user complained that cooker
alsa-lib-1.0.2 package was broken whereas downloaded tarball from
ftp.alsa-project.org wasn't. people should at least be warned about
the reupload.

reuploading a file should never be done.
if some bug needs a urgent fix or if wrong tarball was uploaded, the
right thing to do with respect to packagers is to reupload
alsa-lib-1.0.2a.tar.bz2 not plain alsa-lib-1.0.2.tar.bz2.
i would like to see alsa team promise they'll never reupload a file
again, at least not without notifying people.
it seems the kernel drivers also have been reuploaded.
now, which other file also have been reuploaded ?

This should go without saying. I don't want to have to spend time
explaining to users that their 1.0.2 isn't *really* the latest release,
much less the confusion of not being able to tell from the version what
version it really is (confusion of that nature in other code has, in the
past, stolen many hours of my time at a stretch).

Hello!
I have an Audigy2 NX working under ALSA 1.0.2 (the latest 1.0.2 :), but it
is of course slightly imperfect in how it's controlled. Here are some
issues:
1. alsamixer is very confusing, with redundant labels (lots of "Speaker 2"
settings). Lots of trial and error to control the volume, but there are
still lots of mysteries. amixer output is somewhat helpful, but missing
some strings.
2. I downloaded the latest firmware under Windows that supposedly permits
USB 2.0 operation, but lsusb -v stills shows it as a 1.1 device. Am I
right in assuming that this has absolutely nothing to do with ALSA? Does
anyone have any pointers on making this a true USB 2.0 connection? That
would be fantastic.
Below is output from lsusb -v and amixer, if this is helpful to an ALSA
developer.
As for the audio quality, it's very nice. The electrical noise inside the
Shuttle box is nicely eliminated with an external device.
And thanks for any guidance.
