hmm, probably everybody knows and there is a good 
reason for it, but just for the unlikely case, that 
it did went unnoticed ...

the finger services at kernel.org does not return
useful information atm.

monitoring. The number of automatic bots hitting this port is causing the
finger daemon to shut down more often than not. The same information is
available from http://www.kernel.org/kdist/finger_banner.
