Patch-O-Matic is a way to add other features to netfilter which are not part
of the mainstream distribution.
Regard it as a series of patches, each of which adds something different to
the standard netfilter, which happen to have been collected all in one place.
Whether or not you want to use it depends on whether you want netfilter to do
any of the more unusual or exotic things which people have written the
extensions for.
Take a look at the lists on the website and see if any seem useful.

Antony.

Hi,
Patch-o-matic comes from patch and automatic (huhu ^_^).
There are a lot of functionnalities added to netfilter that aren't in
the vanilla kernel. But you can patch your kernel in order to use
them.
Patch-o-matic is a script that let you select functionnalities you
want (like new targets, new matches) and patches your kernel.
You shall have a look at
http://netfilter.org/documentation/HOWTO//netfilter-extensions-HOWTO.html
regards
Frederic
