Just wondering if anyone has found time to look into fixing the input
quality of the usb quattro?

I'm not sure it has ever functioned perfectly for input quality.

Currently I get a better sound quality from my $10 cmipci than my $400
usb-quattro ;-P

There is a constant crackle in the audio stream.

This has been independantly verified by numerous users over the past few
months.

Apparently upon the beginning of the barrage, the donkey broke

there is a thread on this on the alsa bugtracking system ... there is a
patch available, but it's not fully working for me...
using kernel 2.6.6rc2 with the patch to the usb subsystem to allow the
using of the quattro, i'll only have to restart alsa about once or
twice. (probably i still had problems with the alsa patch because of
kernel 2.6.6)

cheers...

Thanks for the tip.

Just to confirm what I read in mantis. The quattro can only record in
big endian mode and playback in little endian?

How does this affect jackd?

AFAIK it's not possible to have dual modes while using jack...

Using the latest usb-audio code from cvs I get a kernel panic when
loading the drivers. After that I cannot unload the modules and have to
reboot if I want to try again.

This doesn't happen with the hdsp driver or cmipci driver which I also use.

I'm running kernel-2.2.21 with gcc-2.95.4

kernel 2.6.6rc2 is very broken with respect to USB. Use 2.6.6rc3 or above.

Works fine with my 2.2.19(?).

ALSA 1.0.4 fixed some horrible bugs in the USB compatibility code for
2.2.x kernels.

Where exactly does this crash happen?

Clemens

I just updated to the latest sf.net cvs. hdspmixer is working again but
still get a kernel error with usb-audio.

This is the error message and the corresponding section of /proc/ksyms.

The 2.6.5-rc2 kernel introduced some API changes to work around
devices with broken descriptors. The resulting changes in the ALSA
code broke ALSA's workaround for the same problem.

The fix below is now in CVS.
