Hi,

I've set up ipsec in my home LAN, it works like a charm except for a
little problem.

First, let me explain my network topology. It's a LAN [10.12.0.0/18]
with one server [10.12.0.1] and 2 workstations (one desktop [10.12.1.1]
and a laptop [10.12.1.2 and 10.12.2.2]).

The server has 3 NIC's: eth0 which is connected to the internet with my
cable ISP and br0 (a bridge of eth1 and wlan0) that's connected to the
LAN.

The server does SNAT (MASQUERADE) on eth0 to allow the workstations to
connect to the Internet.

My goal with ipsec is to secure all the LAN traffic (both ethernet and
wireless) so that all traffic is encrypted and authenticated.

The only problem I have is securing the traffic that the workstations
send to Internet. I define the following security policy:

At the server:
| spdadd 0.0.0.0/0 10.12.1.1 any -P out ipsec esp/tunnel/10.12.0.1-10.12.1.2/require;
| spdadd 10.12.1.1 0.0.0.0/0 any -P in  ipsec esp/tunnel/10.12.1.2-10.12.0.1/require;

At the workstation:

It's doing the expected thing: tunnel all traffic from workstations to
Internet through ipsec up to the server.

The problem is that the server sends the data to Internet without doing
SNAT (checked with tcpdump) (the packets do not traverse the POSTROUTING
chain in nat table, checked watching the pkts counters).

These are the rules I've got at the nat table:

I've tried to use NAT_LOCAL but when I issue the iptables command I get
an error:

Anyone has any hint?

You could try the netfilter+ipsec patches in netfilter patch-o-matic-ng,
they should solve this problem, The current patches only apply to 2.6.6,
but I will update them next week

Hi Patrick

I've tried those patches with 2.6.6 and I see the same behaviour,
packets do not traverse POSTROUTING chain in nat table (and thus they
are not s-natted).

What I did was to manually aply the following patches from
patch-o-matic-ng-20040621 to a vanilla 2.6.6 tree:

nf_reset
ipsec-01-output-hooks
ipsec-02-input-hooks
ipsec-03-policy-lookup
ipsec-04-policy-checks

did I miss something? (I understood from your email and from
patch-o-matic-ng-20040621/ipsec-*/info files that this was enough, maybe
it wasn't... O:-).
