ax25 with digipeaters

ax25 with digipeaters

Hello,

I have been using ax25 for long time, but until now I had never tried to use it with 
digipeaters... I try:

(from SOURCE)
call port FINAL DIGI (or call port FINAL via DIGI)
    
but the station with callsign "DIGI" does not repeat the packet (although it shows it in listen)

What's the problem? Should something be enabled on "DIGI" station?

Make sure the syntax is proper for your command.  I don't recall
whether spaces are needed or commas between stations.

Yes, there are parameters on the intermediate stations that would
need to be set to use it as a digipeater.  Something like "MRPT
ON"???  Can't recall the exact commands, and they may change based
on the TNC or the software involved.

Syntax is correct, as listen shows:

vhf: EAX25: fm ORIG to DEST via DIGI ctl SABME+ 07:00:58

but DIGI does not retransmit the packet.

I forgot to mention, I am not using a TNC but soundmodem.

any ideas?

It would be TNC commands at the digipeater locations.  If they
haven't enabled digipeating then you won't be able to digi through
them.

I did't know about "digi_ned"... does it work well with ax25? anyway, for this
time the digipeating I need is very simple (a middle point that repeats every 
packet between two other stations), so "rxecho" is enough.

It has worked well for me, in the simple testing I have done,
on a Debian Linux system ("stable" distribution) and a single
KISS-mode TNC.

It's a very flexible, highly-configurable package, with a lot
of "smarts" about how and what it digipeats, and how it
alters the packets' digipeating path when it does so.  Think of
it as a "sendmail for digipeating" (and if that isn't enough
to make the hair stand up on the back of your neck, go for it!)

Fortunately it's not difficult to create a "cut-down" version
of the configuration, which does the simple sort of straightforward
digipeating you're interested in.  A suitable sample configuration
is provided with the software.

You mean kernel ax25? Yes, it supports any ax25 kernel 
device. I set up a system wich has 2 vhf ports, one a tnc, 
and the other one a soundmodem, and digi_ned works fine on 
both, and it even does cross-port digipeating between them.
