Currently, the interest in UML is increasing, new developers come in, and after a lot of time, a new architecture (x86_64) is being supported. Also we've seen messages from people starting work to port UML even to ARM machines(!). No actual code, yet, so I suppose they stopped. However, nobody removed the old code from UML. It has even been accepted in the 2.6 kernel, even if it is completely broken. If you can bring up this issue on any place where someone could pick it up, you could find someone helping. Those guys know ppc so I'm guessing that asking about ppc32 stuff is cool as well. I'd be willing to test UML on PPC64 if work commences, I have access to some IBM Power[345] machines. I'd love to help in development, but I'm pretty busy right now, so I'll just volunteer to test it. Do you agree? Apparently Oleg Orel has UML on PPC basically working, and will hopefully release it soon (within a few weeks). So I think it's worth waiting (a reasonable time) for Oleg's work, to avoid duplicating the effort. If we lose patience, though, I agree with you. :-) Chris ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: IT Product Guide on ITManagersJournal Use IT products in your business? For my point of view, the problem shouldn't have arosen if I didn't buy a Powerbook. Now I would like to be more and more involved, but I have not a so strong background to carry a kernel development efford. My idea is, at first, to contribute by testing and patching, then we will see. I would be a pity if we don't have uml on such arch as the ppc (so glorious!) I want to wait as long as possible to have something good ù(or working). At the moment, if I would like to contribute, where can I get the code to test? where is Oleg Orel's repository to test? How ca I contact him? I would be pleased to you if you answer to these simple question(at the moment) ;^P Thank you in advance. No - but actually I do not think there is a such "Kconfig option". You should add SUBARCH=ppc on the command line to cross-build it. A good idea could be "echo WARNING - code currrently broken". However it's quite impossible for it to build at all.
