usb not working in dom0

Hello,

I have tried xen 2.0 and 2.0.1, but I can't get my USB mouse to work in 
either under Fedora or Debian as dom0.

I've tired recompiling the kernel after edited .config or used 
menuconfig, but no luck with either way.

Enabled legacy USB support got the light on the USB mouse to light up, 
but it still didn't move in X. 

When I boot debian or fedora without Xen the mouse works fine.

Are there any tricks I missed to get USB support? 

Is there a way to verify that the new .config is being read when I 
recompile Xen?

It's conceivable their kernels have some patch that isn't
in mainstream, though I doubt it.

Nope - it normally just works.

Look in dist/install/boot/config-x.x.x-xen0 to check that's the
config you want.

I used this:

grep USB config-2.6.9-1.667 >> ~/xen-2.0/linux-2.6.9-xen0/.config

to get all my USB parameters from a working config.  I then ran "make 
ARCH=xen oldconfig".  After this the .config file no longer had the USB 
options in it.

Should I be running the make command in a different manner?  I'm trying 
to do what is in the docs.

Hi,

  Using the make menuconfig option --- helps in easily selecting what
functionality u want and wht u dont want.

   try making all USB functionality as built in - ie not modules ---
then see if it still doesnt work.

The dist/install/boot/config-2.6.9-xen0 file is the master - you should be 
adding the USB options into this otherwise it'll overwrite the .config file 
if you make world.  Then run make world in the top level directory to build 
everything.

If you run this in the Linux directory it shouldn't be removing any options...  
Are you sure you didin't run the command in a different dir?

You should be able to modify the .config and then do a 
'make dist' from the top-level.

'make world' is far more draconian -- it blows all the build
trees away and remakes them, and is intended to be used if you've
re-synced your repository and want to be sure you're in a
consistent state. It will blow your newly edited .config away --
copy it to dist/install/boot/config-XXX

Well that didn't work either.  After running "make dist" in the top 
level the edits to the .config file are gone, and the resulting 
config-2.6.9-xen0 file doesn't have the USB options either.

Am I the only one seeing this?

Okay, so I got this working.  I compiled the unstable version and 
followed these instructions.

I had to use "make ARCH=xen menuconfig" instead of "make ARCH=xen xconfig"


Now even my USB sound sticks work! 

For the record, here's the .config I ended up with after menuconfig:

How was it failing? I frequently use xconfig without problems.
