Is it possible to Xenify a stock Redhat/Fedora kernel.

I would have sworn that someone on the list had a way to Xenify a stock 
RH kernel but I was not able to dig it up on the archives.

If this does not exist I am sure it would be a nice addition to Xen to 
be able to patch and build some kernels that are compatable with some of 
the popular distributions.

Tomorrow probably. A major project that is putting food on my table is
in urgent need of completing today. :) I have multiple bugs to fix in it
(aren't users sooooo helpfull at eating up time reporting bugs that I
have to go fix? ;) )

I'll anounce here once it's ready. Thanks for everyone that uses the
unofficial repo for being patient with me.

The plan is to split the repo into dev (2.x) and stable (2.0.x) RSN.

Should we be adding a bunch of .deb targets to our top-level
Makefiles, or is it more gory than that? Can the existing
buildconfigs stuff be adapted for building custom debian kernels?

I presume we'd need a Debian box to actually build the .deb's, or
are there some simple tools we can just add to our FC2 box that
does the nightly build?

I'd like to see us building .deb's and .rpm's nightly -- the
current install.sh stuff is far from ideal (though actually seems
to work remarkably well on all modern distros).

Currently there are a lot modification between genuine Xen-2.0.1's
Makefile and debiaized version of Makefile.
But I believe we can modify it for both .deb and .rpm nightly build.

I believe we need a debian box to generate debiaized packages nightly.

Yes, agreed definitely.

If official Xen project to offer deb's repo, I am very happy to upload
Xen 2.0.1 debianized packages to the repo and maintain them til Xen-2.0
official debian packages to be released.

Perhaps you and Brian could post some suggested patches?

It would certainly be easier if the tools could be made to run
standalone, but I guess we could setup a Debian box if need be --
it'll just be harder to integrate into the nightly build.

I'd certainly like to see .deb's and .rpm's available for
download from the main site. I'd prefer to have them generated
automatically from the nightly build, otherwise it'll be a hassle
whenever we do a point release (every few weeks).

In the mean time, to get them wider testing, if we need to link
to them from our downloads page or host them, so be it.

But please understand attaching patches to mailing-list is not recommended.
Or am I supposed to attach more than 20 debian/ files to the list?

Toss the patches to me as a unified diff and i'll apply and update my
repo. If you want to work with me on this we can get it cleaned up
enough to update the official xen packages using Adam Heath as the
package sponsor. (he can't use the bk client due to personal reasons)

We don't actually need a Debian box for this.  You see, there's
this really cool virtualisation software called Xen, and we might
be able to get away with doing it in a domain on top of that.

Well, once I get these patches from kaz I can do a couple more cleanpups
and get daily builds running once more.  I have plenty of bw at the colo
and 6 athlons here to do compiles on individual xen hosts. I just need
to hook up the make routine I wrote to the patche anouncements mailing
list to automate it. I'd be more than happy to have my debianizing
adopted into the official xen sources and help maintain that with you
kaz.

I can run the xen sources through Adam  in all likelyhood once we get
2.0.x cleaned up decently enough to meet the debian package guidelines.
I'm certain that others could get xen into other distros.

I'm working on Xen kernel RPMs for Fedora.  They should be
in rawhide soon...

I'll make an official announcement when I've tested them on
a few systems and have confirmed that they work, but if they
show up unexpectedly before an announcement, feel free to play
with them anyway ;)

Where would someone look to see if they unexpectedly show up?  I'm
currently using UsMoLi quite extensively in a number of places and I'm
pretty disappointed by the disk i/o performance..   I've got FC3 in a
few places and could kick the wheels on your RPM.
