How I can detect NFS server failure at the client side at linux

How I can detect NFS server failure at the client side at linux

Dear all,
              I have exported a directory from my nfs server & i am 
mounting it at the client. i am unable to detect the mount failure (if 
the nfs server goes down). Is there any way to detect the mount failure.
