Hi

I'm Andrea and i'm writing from Italy. I have a big problem and i can't found
the way to resolve it.
I compile the latest kernel version 2.6.11.8 on my Amd Athlon 64 3200+
Workstation.
When i load the module powernow-k8 i have this error:

powernow-k8: Found 1 AMD Athlon 64 / Opteron processors (version 1.00.09e)
powernow-k8: BIOS error - no PSB
FATAL: Error inserting powernow_k8
(/lib/modules/2.6.11.8/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/powernow-k8.ko):
No such device

What can i will do to resolve my problem?

Thank you, Andrea

Ps: Sorry for my Bad English

Your BIOS does not provide the ACPI _PSS objects, nor
the legacy PSB table, necessary for the powernow-k8
driver. Without those objects or table, the driver
does not know what frequencies are available.

You need to complain to your BIOS manufacturer.
What board are you using and who makes the BIOS?

What mainboard do You have?

Well, than You have to complain to MSI, but it's strange, I have MSI K8T Neo2
and I have this setting in bios, it's in "Cell menu"

IIRC Mihnea bought the same mainboard.
I had a short look at the DSDT and couldn't find any cpufreq related functions
in the BIOS.
I wonder whether cpufreq works on Windows, but I doubt it.
In this case you probably have better chances to get a new BIOS from MSI ...

P.S.: If you get an answer from them what is going on, could you please let us
know? Thanks.

Sorry guys...i'm a stupid. I didn't saw the Cool and Quiet voice in all bios
in the Msi "Cell Menu"

Now the kernel module powernow-k8 is ok:
powernow-k8: Found 1 AMD Athlon 64 / Opteron processors (version 1.00.09e)
powernow-k8: 0 : fid 0xc (2000 MHz), vid 0x6 (1400 mV)
powernow-k8: 1 : fid 0xa (1800 MHz), vid 0x8 (1350 mV)
powernow-k8: 2 : fid 0x2 (1000 MHz), vid 0x12 (1100 mV)

Thanks a lot

Andrea
