human aspect : lots of work on a hardrive that I can't access

The problem :

reiserfsck 3.6.17 (2003 www.namesys.com)
returns

create_badblock_bitmap: block number (960) belongs to system reiserfs area. It
cannot be relocated.

motherboard is a asrock with sata
harddrive is maxtor sata 80Gb

reiserfsck 3.6.17 (2003 www.namesys.com)
returns

create_badblock_bitmap: block number (960) belongs to system reiserfs area. It
cannot be relocated.

To me this looks like a hardware error, the disk most probably died.
personally i dont know a way to recover from this, except having good 
backups.
But you could contact a compamy specialised in disc/data recovery.

but maybe someone else has a better option for you.

The fault could be in the controller
 in which case you should be able to
 swap the card from another identical disk.

If the problem is in the platters then then it's either
 backups (cheap) or professional data recovery (expensive).

Decide at the start if there is enough money at stake
 to call the professionals.
Any mucking you do is likely to make things harder.
