Hello,
Can anyone here comment on the status of the string match for the 2.6 kernel
series?
Yes, I asked this before but got no reply and I recall some progress on the
string match was discussed some time ago.
I would very much like to be able to use a string match on 2.6.x but I am no
coder. :-(
What are the current issues, when could we test the functionality?
Kind regards,
Udo

The status is that no one submitted a working port yet. The string
match is not an official feature of netfilter/iptables, but rather a
contributed patch. The core developers are unlikely to spend time on
it.

Hello,
Can anyone please tell about the plans for updating the string match to
the 2.6 tree?
If there are no plans: what could be my best alternatives?
Kind regards,
Udo

Hi,

(Don't know much about string's 2.6 fitness, so it's
neither "plans" nor "no plans")

l7-filter.sf.net -- you can "abuse" it to have some string matching. It also
has regexes, so if you need that, you're in best hands ;)
Note however that regexes may take slightly more CPU.
