driver update, but there's various more random things, including just lots
of cleanups.
The shortlog is pretty readable, so without further ado, here it is:

I get this when building using debian's make-kpkg:
The UTS Release version in include/linux/version.h
""
does not match current version:
"2.6.18-rc2"
Please correct this.
I didnt test building -rc1 this way yet, so I dont know when this was
introduced, but I don't have this problem with 2.6.17.y

Why does the 'headers_install' target require a configured kernel?
I just ran 'make headers_install INSTALL_HDR_PATH=/dev/shm/$$'

Cant you just export all asm-<arch> files? I guess they are all static.

make-kpkg uses version.h to get UTS_RELEASE. UTS_RELEASE has
moved to utsrelease.h.
Right after you get the error, modify
debian/ruleset/misc/version_vars.mk
-UTS_RELEASE_VERSION=$(shell if [ -f include/linux/version.h ]; then \
- grep 'define UTS_RELEASE' include/linux/version.h | \
+UTS_RELEASE_VERSION=$(shell if [ -f include/linux/utsrelease.h ]; then \
+ grep 'define UTS_RELEASE' include/linux/utsrelease.h | \
And rerun your make-kpkg. The above is not a valid patch, you'll have
to hand change it.

It installs linux/version.h that is generated.
But you are right, can't the rules for the version.h generation be more
relaxed?
Sam?

asm/atomic.h is a good example for abuses that are prevented by not
installing all asm-<arch> files.

topic currently taking place on this mailing list.

It's probably worth letting somebody an upstream Debian maintainer know about
this, so that Etch can inherit it (CCed).

Sam had a patch to fix that. I think he's already asked Linus to pull
it.

$DEITY no. We want the exported set to be as minimal as possible.

I expected they'd notice really soon. Plus, a proper fix needs
to detect which header to use (older vs newer kernels), so the above is
not viable for upstream. But yes, I should have Cc'd :-)

Currently using the latest git version, and it seems like 'dmesg -n
1' (ie 'syslog(0x8, 0, 0x1)') is broken. IE, kernel messages after
initscripts and 'dmesg -n1' is called goes to console (mostly when newer
udev does its coldplug thing).
If nobody have a hunch what it can be, I'll try to track it later on if
I get time. It still worked shortly with -git checkouts shortly before
2.6.18-rc1 was release. Unfortunately I did not have time to test newer
kernels until now.
