Yes, unfortunately we can't change this.

Me too, and you don't need to worry about compatibility.

There's nothing wrong with the parameter itself as long as its
not the only way to control things. But I don't see why you'd
need it when you can simply add them at runtime. Especially when
you don't build it as module this is a lot easier.
