Ways to pause a VM?

Ways to pause a VM?

Hi,

I have a question concerning how to pause a running VM. As far as I
can see, there are 2 ways:
1) Send STOP signal to the related QEMU process
2) Use monitor interface to stop the QEMU process ("stop" command)

Are these 2 ways equivelant? Any advantage or disadvantage of each
method compare to the other?

This prevents the QEMU process from running at all.  The VNC server and 
monitor interface will become unresponsive.

The QEMU process still runs but the guest's VCPUs are never run.  The 
VNC server and monitor interface will still be responsive.
