Wow, Cool,
Thanks for the positive feedback!
Let me spend the next week upgrading to the newest Drupal version.
(which has a bunch of security updates, and new features) Hosting space
is no problem, I'll happily host the site on this server. I'll get back
in touch when I'm done and see what you think of the changes.

I'd be willing to help spruce up the design with some CSS love. I've
made good use of mlmmj and would like to help, but I don't have any C
programming skills!

I'll get back to you when I have finished the upgrade and we can work
something out. In the mean time it would be cool if you'd get yourself
acquainted with the Drupal theme system at http://www.drupal.org/

This is exactly what we're doing at my fulltime job at holamun2.com --
moving from a frankenstein Wordpress site to Drupal over the next few
months. So I'll soon be all too acquainted with Drupal, haha.
Keep in touch, and if anyone has any thoughts on what design they'd
like, feel free to email me with ideas or sites you like.
Thanks,

I feel like it would be great if MLMMJ could have a recognisable icon
(even though I can't help on that part).

Ok, now go have a look, and explore the new site! I selected a green
theme since green is my favorite color. Nate you can start working on
the new theme. I'll install it when you are done. Do you need admin rights?
To everyone: I'll give you more access rights once you join. With the
mlmmj developer role, you get access to the issue tracker. This means
that you can edit the state of bug reports and requests and it also
allows you to make new releases. Please explore, and send me feedback if
you would want to have more features added to the site. There are
modules for almost anything.

very nice, the newer drupal themes are pretty sexy. much much better
than what you had before. at this point, it seems like just a few
tweaks would personalize the site, mostly an mlmmj logo. i'll mockup
up some ideas when i can find the time.
it would also be fantastic, tho i'm sure unlikely (at least
initially), to have the "files" and "archives" not link to outside
resources, but rather have them either mirrored or primarily hosted on
the new site.

Yeah, the new Drupal themes are very cool. As for the logo, I look
forward to seeing some mockups. On additional change I'll probably make
is to add a dash between the mlmmj and the expanded abbreviation, so it
will read "mlmmj -- mailing list ...."

Yeah I was thinking about that, and you make a good point. I'll wget the
files and redirect the links to the new place.
What do you guys think of making the CVS logs available through Drupal?

i put together a possible logo and first mockup of the site:
http://urlx.org/photobucket.com/52bca
the logo is a paper boat w/ envelope -- cheesy? i like it, but maybe
it's too much. hard to come up with an original mail-themed icon these
days, haha.
i think the site should be simple to reflect mlmmj, there's no real
need for three columns + search, , login fields, registration, who's
online, etc. in fact, the nav options could be simplified more with
some reorganization. primarily it should be a quick rundown of
features, a howto for installation, and of course, links to source
files.
Wolf, this would require some fussing with drupal, so if you'd rather
just use what you have up and just put in the logo, i'm fine with that
too (or even that as a first step). once we decide on a design i could
just put this together on a local drupal install and send you the
theme dir.
feedback welcome of course.

I know it would need lot's of graphical skills, but I would rather have
seen a little man with it's body as an envelope wearing a conic party
hat like this one (took from google image):
http://sammibag.typepad.com/sammibag/images/party_hat_1.jpg
and some confetti party papers around... Just to make it Joyful... :)
Maybe just the envelope and the hat to make it more easy to draw?
Just my 2 cents idea...

I kind of like it, but as Thomas said, the joyful is missing :)

With Drupal we could have the chance for community building, meaning
people could log in, and share their config files, or scripts and what
not. But if the community doesn't want that, I'm fine by it. But the
idea here is that anybody (with proper credentials) could add pages to
the manual, and that the bug reports and feature requests could go via
the website (people expect that kind of thing). But again, if you want
to simply be old-fashioned (1996 anyone?) it is also possible.
Personally I think it would be cool if we could have a more modern and
functional website. Simple doesn't need to mean lack in functionality.

Drupal is flexible enough to go without the blocks on the sides.

I just asked my designer to work on something, but I'm really not sure
he will have enough time to work on it. If he does, we will have
something for the end of the week.
Just to make a little bit of advertising for him, here is his site:
http://www.bwoup.com
He asked me to send my requirement by email. Do you think that my idea
of a "party hat" with the envelope is good?
I'll get back here if something is done.
