Hi,

Installed fan control on Ubuntu 7.1 according to http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Feisty#How_to_detect_CPU_temperature.2C_fan_speeds_and_voltages_.28lm-sensors.29

CPU fan works nicely but chassi fan runs at full speed. 
pwmconfig detects following:

hwmon0/device is w83627th

hwmon0/device/pwm1
hwmon0/device/pwm2
hwmon0/device/pwm3

hwmon0/device/fan1_input  current speed: 1205 RPM
hwmon0/device/fan2_input  current speed: 2700 RPM
hwmon0/device/fan3_input  current speed: 0 ... skipping

Testing pwm control hwmon0/device/pwm1  ---> no correlation
Testing pwm control hwmon0/device/pwm2  ---> hwmon0/device/fan2_input 
Testing pwm control hwmon0/device/pwm3  ---> no correlation

Can I control the speed of the chassi fan with pwm1 or pwm3 on this ASUS P4C800 board.

If there is no correlation found, you may try chaning the base PWM frequency. I 
dont recall if the driver supports it (imho w83627th F ?)

But if it is not "deluxe" board, Asus will ommit the PWM transitor and few other 
components. Yes they did it to me too - suckers. I have build my own regulator 
with some linear voltage regulator.

I'm leaving for a holiday so perhaps someone else will answer ;)

The W83627THF does DC fan control, not PWM, so there's no base frequency
to change. Not that it would have helped anyway, if the board is wired
for control then PWM=0 will stop the fan no matter the frequency.
Changing the frequency only changes the response curve.

What Pelle could try is to connect a fan to the 3rd fan header then run
pwmconfig again. But as you said, if is very frequent that only the CPU
fan can be controlled and not the case fans, so I wouldn't hold my
breath.

I have this exact board (P4C800E-Deluxe), and I can confirm that only
the CPU fan header allows fan control.  Sorry.

Thanks guys,

I use a DC regulator insted for the chassie and it's nice and quiet now.
It's maybe not perfect but as what to do if the board dossn't have
PWM controll.
