It's possible to check out this version from the Mercurial repository.

Are historic versions of ALSA available anywhere? I have been unable to
locate any.
It might be useful for me tracking down a bug to see the source code for
alsa-driver-1.0.1 !!

Yes, use the mercurial source repository. You can do a binary search if
you know where the bug is. What driver are you tracing?
