Apart from the Internet Connection, what would I need to be able to 
stream Live Audio (or Live Video) from my computer?

since you have no other response yet, I'm not up to date with it
currently, but was once a little ...

Depending on your ambitions, you might have a look at
mpeg4ip.sourceforge.net also for related, especially x264 issues, at
ffmpeg, ,vlc, mplayer, and for what was live.com and audiocoding.com
once and others. 

And if you want a media server solution, also at apple.com for the
DarwinStreamingServer and embedded live video within websites.

But as said, I'm not up to date ;)
