I have pushed forward the distribution integration of three OpenPrinting 
projects on the Ubuntu Developer Summit in Prague two weeks ago:

Common Printing Dialog;

PDF instead of PostScript as standard print job transfer format:

Automatic download of printer drivers:

By the integration into the next Ubuntu release I hope that other 
distros (SUSE, Red Hat, ...) will soon take these features, too.

I also found some contacts on the Ubuntu Summit and on the LinuxTag to 
move forward the changes of the applications needed to integrate the 
Common Printing Dialog and the PDF printing workflow.

OpenOffice.org and KDE/Qt folks are informed, GNOME/GTK to follow.

Lars Uebernickel is working on the DBUS API for plugging in the dialog 
now. Name for the API/library package? Problem: Printing Dialog API -> 
PDAPI already used for Printer Driver API.

Peter Sikking will present the Common Printing Dialog with live demo. 
Alexander Wauck is coding on the dialog. I will present the progress of 
all the other OpenPrinting projects. I am grateful for slides from the 
GSoC students and/or mentors.

Speaking of SUSE: we are at least interested.

But it depends on the quality of this feature and required time, if
and when integration is done.
