Some time ago, I upgraded my Linux machine to use a new motherboard:
ASUS M2NPV-VM
At that time, I was told (on this list) that my CentOS Linux kernel was
too old for the 3.0.X version of the lm_sensors package. I've now upgraded
the machine to CentOS 5.2, which includes the Linux kernel 2.6.18.
I downloaded lm_sensors-3.0.3 from http://www.lm-sensors.org/wiki/Download
and built/installed successfully. This included some changes to the system's
ld.so.conf to include /usr/local/lib on the system LD path.
When I ran sensors-detect, it found the following:
It said it found 'ITE IT8716F Super IO Sensors', address 0x290,
driver 'it87'.
It also said it found an AMD K8 thermal sensor embedded with the CPU
(driver 'k8temp').
I had it create the /etc/sysconfig/lm_sensors file, which looks like
this (sans the comments):
MODULE_0=it87
MODULE_1=k8temp
I then created the /etc/init.d/lm_sensors file (as per the instructions)
and started the service.
I ran sensors -s (as root), but when I run sensors, the only output
I get is this:
k8temp-pci-00c3
Adapter: PCI adapter
Core0 Temp: +33.0°C
Core1 Temp: +37.0°C
Well, this appears to be showing me good CPU temps, but where is
the rest of the it87 chip data? Did I miss a step?
Thanks for any help.

The CentOS 2.6.18 kernel does not have the it87 driver.

Hans

Or, more likely, it has the it87 driver but that driver doesn't yet
support the ITE IT8716F. Looking at:
http://www.lm-sensors.org/wiki/Devices
it says that support was added in kernel 2.6.19.

Thanks Hans, Jean.
I've installed CentOS from the installation CDs, and upgraded to the latest
packages using 'yum'. How do I get the 2.6.19 kernel? I'm also asking on the
CentOS support forum, but wanted to ask here as I figured you guys run into
this from time to time and may just know.
I searched at pbone.net and Google'd, but didn't find anything.
Thanks,

With some help from others, I was able to get an upgraded kernel module for
the IT8716F chip found on the ASUS M2NPV-VM motherboard, and running 'sensors'
now shows lots of sensor data. Unfortunately, much of it doesn't make any
sense.
Is it possible that someone has already create a sensors.conf file for this
version of lm_sensors and this ASUS motherboard?
If it helps any, here is the information I see from the BIOS hardware
monitoring page:
Q-Fan Controller: Enabled
VCore Voltage : 1.23V
3.3V Voltage : 3.18V
5.0V Voltage : 4.95V
12.0V Voltage : 11.60V
CPU Temp 42C
M/B Temp 38C
CPU Fan Speed 2163 RPM
Chassis 1 Fan Speed 0 RPM
Chassis 2 Fan Speed 4647 RPM
Power Fan Speed 0 RPM
Can anyone share their sensors.conf file?
Thanks,

After thinking about this some more, I'm guessing the specific configuration
items are not going to change between versions of lm_sensors, so any working
configuration would be welcome.
I've played with the "compute" lines to get voltage values close to what I
see in the BIOS, but I'm not sure if they are really correct. The fan speeds
shown by sensors don't match the speeds reported by the BIOS. For example,
the CPU fan speed reported by BIOS is 2163, while sensors reports it as 1238.
Is there anything I can do to get the correct fan speeds?
I sure could use some help getting these elements configured from someone
who has done it for this board, or someone that knows how to do it.
