As I understand, VIA has not released documentation to the lm-sensors
developers on the latest revisions of the C7. I believe that it is helpful if
you post the output of cpuid with your info, but I forget which switch(es) to
use.

As you can see, I CC'd the list with you info. Maybe someone will know
something that I do not. Sorry I was not of more help.

Well, as far as I con see, my version of cpuid doesn't have any switches

You need a newer cpuid to display some additional data:

Hi all

Please tell me exactly what you need. I can ask.
(I will be on holiday for the rest of the week but then I can help)

Michael,

Please also run cpuid -r.

Thanks

Rudolf:

Juerg is the one who has been helping me out; so everything I say is likely a
less accurate repetition of his words. My understanding is that there is at
least one, and probably more, system configurations from VIA with C7 CPUs that
do not work with the current c7temp module.

In my case it is a HP 2133 Mini-Note KX869AT. Michael has a different system,
but the same issue. I used the version of CPUID that Juerg recommended and
provided the output to him and the list several months ago. At that time he
mentioned that he needed documentation from VIA to determine which registers
meant what.

If you, Rudolf, are able to find out any technical info about these CPUs, or if
you need more accurate technical info about the problems with c7temp, I would
suggest contacting Juerg. I will be happy to provide any data from my system
and try any patches that may help; but, I am sadly not a developer.

Thank you all for your interest and effort.

I tried another thing, which unfortunately is not promising: I ran cpuid

the output of cpuid :-(

Hello Jason,

We have some problem with c7temp driver in the linux. This was done by Juerg.
The driver can be downloaded from the lm-sensors.org website in devices section.

It seems some version of fam6 model D does not have any temperature register in

> 0xc0000002: eax=0x00000000 ebx=0x08000810 ecx=0x08100f13 edx=0x42040000

Jason, Please can you look to some more recent version of C7 data book, where
the values for temperature are stored? (normally they are for cpuid EAX =
0xc0000002 in EAX. Here are zeros.

I dont know what CPU revision it is exactly. I guess we will need to read some
other MSR to get current version. Juerg do you know this? Its should be MSR 1154h.

All I know that the cpu is also at HP Mini-note 2133.

Thanks,
Rudolf

Will reply you tonight (3 hours later), back to home now:)
However I found I only have a " VIA C7 BIOS WRITERS GUIDE_2.5"( created
in 04/04/07) on hand. My colleague that works for c7 on EFI only have
this datasheet too.

All,

From the information that I have it seems that some BIOSes are turning
some features off that will also disable the reporting of the temp via
0xc0000002. Jason, does you BIOS writer guide say why and what feature
and under what circumstances this should be done by the BIOS?

Thanks
...juerg
